The sporty roommate, the professor, and a history lesson…

Holden
Ezra might be the most annoying roommate ever. He’s loud, obnoxious, and full of himself. So what if he’s a tall, muscular, tattooed jock? His tendency to strip to his boxers in the kitchen while helping himself to my food isn’t endearing in the slightest. Nope. Ezra has to go.

However, I have to admit, he’s the perfect fit to play the king for my historic reenactment event. Ezra in a royal robe…oh, this could be quite tantalizing indeed.

He won’t do it, though.

Unless I trick him into a history lesson.

Ezra
Holden is the kind of dude who wears top hats and great coats while teaching astrophysics to brainiacs. Weird, right? But I gotta respect that level of commitment. And I respect him.

Sadly, Holden doesn’t feel the same way about me.

I guess I can’t blame him. Cranking his gears has been a highlight of my stint in geek land. I’ve never seen anyone get riled about yogurt like him. He makes me laugh. And think. And he makes me want things I’d never thought possible.

So yeah, I’ll take that history lesson. If it leads to something more, I’m in.

Love and History is a Bi-awakening geek/jock romance featuring a messy law student, a picky professor, and a lesson neither will forget!

Excerpt:

Holden mumbled a greeting to Cole, who’d shuffled bleary-eyed to the coffee machine, then leaned toward me. “What are you doing with your spoon?”

I held up the spoon in question and shrugged. “Nothing. Why?”

“You’re licking it,” he whispered, adding, “suggestively.”

I barked a strangled half laugh. “Spoon porn? Is that a thing?”

“Don’t ask me. I don’t know anything about porn.”

I arched my brow dubiously. “Really?”

“Really,” he assured me.

“Why not?”

“It’s not interesting to me.”

“Bullshit,” I coughed into my hand, snickering at his outraged expression. “Don’t tell me you’ve never imagined a ‘Robin Hood getting freaky in the forest’ scenario.”

“What does that even mean?”

“You know…hanky-panky in tights and those weird hats with feathers on ’em.” I dipped my spoon into my bowl of yogurt and licked it clean again. “I bet they got down to some kinky shenanigans in the Sherman Forest in Renaissance times.”

Holden pushed his glasses to the bridge of his nose, which I’d learned months ago signaled an oncoming lecture. I was right.

“That’s Sherwood Forest, not Sherman, and Robin Hood is a folktale set in medieval times, not the Renaissance.”

“Same difference.” I teased, rubbing my calf against his.

He narrowed his eyes. “I suspect this is tomfoolery, but I’ll explain the difference nonetheless.”

I set my hand on his knee and smiled. “Please do.”

He blushed, then went into more detail about the difference between the medieval and the Renaissance period than my brain could process at seven a.m. But I liked it.

I polished off my yogurt, listening with half an ear as I surreptitiously studied his details—his squared shoulders, his sharp gaze, and the proud tilt of his chin. Holden was all angles and edges with smiling eyes and unconscious charisma.

When I first moved in, I’d wondered if I could handle living with a guy who spouted random bits of historic or scientific intel like an audiobook version of a dull Wikipedia entry. Funny enough, I didn’t mind at all. I learned something new every day.

For example, a few months ago, he called me a “tallow-catch” when he tripped over the shoes I’d left on the landing. I didn’t have a comeback. I literally had no idea what the fuck that meant, so I consulted Merriam-Webster. Turns out a “tallow-catch” was a lump of animal fat that butchers used to make candles in olden days. Hey, I’d been called worse. I actually appreciated that he never resorted to basic insults and rarely swore.

Holden was a true gentleman. I wasn’t. And that might never change. However, I found myself wanting to try a little harder, and maybe use this newfound supersonic power to figure out what made him tick. ’Cause it occurred to me that his quest to soak up knowledge had a manic edge. As if he used his smarts to avoid…something.

Hell, I knew all about avoiding shit. And I knew that a couple of BJs didn’t give me the right to his secrets. But I wanted them anyway.

“…the invention of the printing press changed the world forever and—” Holden paused for air and gave a self-conscious shrug. “Sorry. I get a little carried away sometimes. I didn’t mean to bore you with a history lesson.”

“You’re not boring me. I think you’re fascinating,” I commented, unthinking.

He shook his head and snickered. “I don’t think you’re fascinated with my mind, Ezra.”

He was so wrong.

The geek, the jock, and a new set of rules…

Topher-

My friend’s brother needs an academic assistant and I need a job. Problem…jocks are my weakness. Seriously. I lose my ability to speak coherently around muscle-bound hotties. Oh yeah, I lose my inhibitions too—not a good look for a guy with a genius IQ. So what am I going to do about Simon?

Simon-

Finishing college isn’t high on my list of priorities, but my future in professional football is looking bleak. I need a plan B or C, and I could use some help navigating life as an undergrad. Topher is perfect. He’s also a little strange…but in a good way. And I like the way I feel when I’m around him—as though anything is possible. Maybe if we follow our hearts, we’ll find what we’re looking for. But that means changing the rules…

Following the Rules is a MM, bisexual awakening romance starring a lovable nerd, a cool jock, and some extracurricular fun.

Release Blitz, Excerpt & Giveaway:
Fran Cuthbert Ruins Christmas
By Lisa Henry & J.A. Rock

Fran Cuthbert Ruins Christmas Cover

Welcome (back) to Christmas Valley. Where it’s Christmas every. F@$#ing. Day.

It’s your typical Hallmark movie plot: my big city boyfriend dumped me, so my adorable five-year-old daughters and I moved back to my hometown just in time for Christmas. I guess the magic of the holiday is going to show me what I really wanted all along, or something.

But on Hallmark, people aren’t usually mainlining their mother’s Xanax. Or stealing the last available Peachblossom Pony Pal from their hot doctor because they have to give their kids the best Christmas ever. And when they run into their high school sweetheart, they don’t usually face the gulf of lies that exists between Cass Sullivan and me.

Oh yeah, and their hometown isn’t located directly up Christmas’s butthole.

I left Christmas Valley because I couldn’t listen to one more carol or look at one more tinsel-wrapped streetlamp. But moving to Boston meant leaving Cass, and that has always been my one regret. I mean, I also regret the box of Franzia in my closet, being publicly dumped, agreeing to take tap dancing lessons with my mom, and the fact that I can’t seem to open my mouth without a little white lie popping out. But mostly Cass.

When I need someone to play Santa for my girls’ favorite Christmas tradition, Cass steps in. Suddenly, I’m falling for him like we’re seventeen again. Can we put aside two decades’ worth of baggage and give each other a second chance? Can he help me build a life in Christmas Valley? And has he really been banging our former geometry teacher?

Only Christmastime will tell. If the holidays don’t kill me first.

Fran Cuthbert Ruins Christmas is a sweet, low-heat holiday novella featuring a second-chance romance, a hot mess MC who could use a steadying hand, adorable kids and dogs, and a guaranteed HEA.

Special Release Blitz Excerpt:

I stood in the produce section of the Christmas Valley Save-Rite, a place I hadn’t stood in eighteen years, reminding myself that a nice bag of turnip greens was just what the doctor ordered. And then trying not to imagine a scenario that involved me doing precisely what my doctor ordered, all night long, because Dr. Stephen Florris had a blinding smile, a smooth baritone voice, and an absolute peach of an ass, and I was fairly certain that winning his love was the key to my elusive happiness. I focused on the greens, vaguely embarrassed that I even needed a doctor to tell me what I should eat. I was an RN and ought to have known better than to spend the last two months living on Lofthouse cookies, Pepsi Max, and White Cheddar Goldfish.

Dr. Stephen Florris had told me gently but gravely at my last visit that it was no wonder my anxiety was through the roof, with all the sugar I was consuming. I’d had the highly inappropriate urge to tell him the reason I was mainlining sugar was that my boyfriend had broken up with me via the Kiss Cam at a Sox game (I’d leaned in, and he’d turned away to ask the woman on his other side where she’d bought her pretzel), and so I’d moved from Boston back to Christmas Valley, OH—a town of 3,915 people, five different holiday shops all purporting to be the Midwest branch of Santa’s workshop, and three annual tree lighting ceremonies; two near actual Christmas, and one for Christmas in July.

Christmas Valley: for the undiscerning gentleman in the throes of a mid-ish life crisis who enjoys driving past Jim Jordan 2024 signs and gagging on Christmas’s dick year-round.

I’d gracefully accepted a nursing job at the community hospital and the attendant pay cut. For the past two months, I’d been driving fifteen minutes to the next town for groceries to avoid seeing anyone I knew. I’d enrolled my girls at Christmas Valley Elementary, the playground of which still harbored the segment of concrete tunnel where I used to hide from bullies with my imaginary friend, Liar Bob. Liar Bob had a tragic backstory where he’d been a compulsive liar until a fairy made it impossible for him to tell anything but the truth. I’d ask him things like, “Will I ever be hot?” and “Will I ever get away from this place?” and “Why would my parents name me Frances?” He’d said, “Yes, Frances, yes you will. And yes, you will. And because they are monsters, Frances.” And I’d believed him.

Now I was starting to think the whole story about the fairy making him tell the truth had been a lie. Because here I was, eighteen years after graduating from Christmas Valley High: Home of the Fighting Reindeer, feeling far from attractive and certain I’d be stuck here until the day I died.

Instead of telling Dr. Stephen Florris—who, mercifully, was not someone I’d gone to school with—my whole sob story, I’d tried to let him know that I was going through a stressful time but that obviously I understood the importance of getting enough sleep and enough B vitamins. He’d asked me, in an unconvincingly offhanded way, what my daughters ate, and I’d looked him right in the eye and told him they ate a healthy, balanced diet—except for the occasional fried potato pizza from Cocca’s—and that the White Cheddar Goldfish lived in Daddy’s secret closet. I didn’t mention the White Cheddar Goldfish’s friends who shared the closet: Box of Franzia, Some of Mom’s Xanax, and Just a Couple of Weed Gummies.

Dr. Stephen Florris had looked at me with mingled pity and suspicion and told me to follow up in four weeks.

My phone jarred me from my reverie and my search for a bag of turnip greens that was not past its sell-by date. My heart thumped when I saw Ben’s name on the screen. I couldn’t have ignored the call if I’d wanted to.

I swiped to answer and said, “Hey,” as casually as I could manage.

“Fran, it’s Ben,” he said, as though I required clarification.

“I know,” I said.

“Do you have a minute?”

“Sure.” I rummaged through the greens. The loudspeaker suddenly blared festive music and the sound of jingle bells, and a cheerful voice said, “Attention holiday shoppers, did you know that now you can get twice the ho-ho-holiday deals with a Save-Rite advantage card? Just fill out our form online, or ask one of our elves to…”

Ben and I both waited until the announcement ended. Then he spoke.

“I’ve been thinking. About Cookies with Santa.”

My heart sank. “Ben…” I said warningly. Maybe a little desperately.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea.”

I closed my eyes briefly. Tightened my grip on the phone. “Why not?”

“For reasons I would think are obvious,”

“You said you would still see the girls.”

“Fran, you moved them eight hundred miles away. I care about them a lot, but if you’d really wanted me to keep seeing them, you wouldn’t have taken them so far.”

“This is where I’m from. I didn’t pick it at random. I needed somewhere to go after you—” I cut myself off. I was not going to get into an argument with my ex in the produce aisle of the Save-Rite. The parking lot, maybe. “Please, Ben,” I said, even though I’d promised myself I would never beg Ben for anything ever again. “Just this year. By next year I’ll have found a replacement, but Christmas is three weeks away, and I—I’m just dealing with a lot.”

“There have to be companies that do this shit. Rent-A-Santa or whatever.”

“They’re used to you. Your Santa. They’ll know if it’s someone else. And come on, the surprise of getting to see you on Christmas Day…”

“I know.” For a moment, Ben sounded genuinely remorseful. “But the truth is, I’m trying to move on. I’ve met somebody.”

Time seemed to freeze. “Met somebody?”

“Yeah. He’s really, really great, actually. You’d like him. Things are going well for me, and it would be really hard to explain to him that hey, so, I have to fly to Ohio because I pretended to be Santa for my ex-boyfriend’s daughters for three years and ate cookies with them every Christmas Eve, and my ex wants me to continue to do this even though he called me ‘the Armie Hammer of mid-level insurance executives’ and said he hoped I died alone—”

“I was in a dark place.”

“—and then he also wants me to spend Christmas morning with him, as myself, because his daughters miss me. So you don’t mind, hon, do you, if I remain inextricably bound to my ex’s life?”

“That’s not what I’m asking.”

“Isn’t it?”

“The girls do miss you. You treated them like they were your daughters. You created a set of, of expectations, and now you’re just—”

“They’re not my daughters, Fran.”

That thumped me in the gut.

“I want to spend Christmas with my boyfriend. I want you to be able to move on, like I have. And I don’t think you can do that if I’m still in your life.”

I couldn’t explain why I did what I did next. I just hurt so much, so suddenly, and I was so angry and confused and unsure whether he was exactly right or being an asshole. So I opened my mouth and pulled a Liar Bob, pre-fairy transformation: “I’m actually moving on just fine. I’m seeing somebody too.”

“What?” He sounded way too surprised.

“His name is Dr. Stephen Florris.” Should not have given him a real name. Fuuuuck. “He’s my doctor.”

“Isn’t that a little unethical? Or a lot?”

Was my doctor. Now we’re dating, so I have a different doctor. Dr. Richmond.” Stop talking, Jan Brady.

“Okay, well, I’m glad to hear that.”

“So even if you did come to visit, it wouldn’t affect my moving-on trajectory, because I’m happy in my relationship. And Stephen doesn’t think it’s weird that somebody who was an important part of my daughters’ lives for years would still come to visit them.”

Ben sighed deeply. Idiot that I was, I’d missed that sigh. “I’m happy for you,” he said. “Really I am. But I can’t do this. It’s too…painful, and awkward. And I just can’t.”

“All right.” A numbness was beginning to set in.

“And I think it’s best if, going forward, we don’t have any contact.”

I nodded, my hand frozen on a bag of turnip greens. People were starting to stare. I realized Ben couldn’t see me nod, and so I would have to say something. But it felt good not to move or speak or think.

“Attention holiday shoppers. Now you can jingle all the way to our bakery for some tree-light-ful holiday deals on cookies, cakes, and more!”

Once more, Ben and I waited in silence for the ad to finish. At least, I thought we were both waiting in silence. But when the cheerful voice stopped speaking, Ben had already hung up.

Lisa lives in tropical North Queensland, Australia. She doesn’t know why, because she hates the heat, but she suspects she’s too lazy to move. She spends half her time slaving away as a government minion, and the other half plotting her escape.

Artists and Athletes, Book 4

Omar

Romance isn’t for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love the corniness of romcoms, but it’s not in the cards in my life. I play hard on the soccer field, I party hard with my boys, and I fool around with any girl or guy who’s hot and willing. The only person off limits: my best friend’s boyfriend’s brother, Sly O’Rourke. He’s cute, but I don’t do feelings.

Staying away from him would be easy if I didn’t have to direct the school musical for my degree credits. Sly is auditioning, and he’s not the shy, nerdy dude everyone thinks he is. He’s talented, charming, and gorgeous—totally boyfriend material, if I ever did relationships. When he asks for help practicing physical intimacy for the play, how can I refuse? It’s my job to make sure this musical is a success, and that’s what this is: strictly business.

But when his mouth catches mine, our bodies don’t get the memo. I don’t think Sly and I are acting anymore.

Sly

I’ve played the role of a comfortable straight guy for too long. The truth is: the thought of physical intimacy makes me nauseous. I’m not interested in anyone, guy or girl, which sucks, because I’ve always wanted a romantic story of my own.

Now that I’m at Korham University, I have the chance to redefine myself. If I play the role of a romantic hero during the semester musical, maybe I’ll learn to enjoy touching people or catch real feelings for once. There is one complication to my plan: I have to spend a lot of time with the soccer jock Omar Odom. He’s a touchy, handsy, party boy, but I eventually see a different side to him. As the weeks go by, my brother’s boyfriend’s best friend doesn’t seem so bad. He’s chill in ways I never could be and supports me in the play. He’s the perfect guy who can help me with the physical aspects of the dramatic arts.

When Omar puts his mouth on mine, I expect to be repulsed, not burning up on the inside. I’ve never wanted a girl or guy before so…what is happening to me? And why don’t I want it to stop?

The Roles We Own is a low-angst, male/male romance about new adults in college. It involves theater rehearsals, soccer games, frat parties, cartoon onesies, raisin bagels, and discovering what gray-asexuality can mean.

It is the fourth book in the “Artists and Athletes” series but can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt:

“You scared me that day…during the cake incident…but the first night we met, you touched my face…”

“Sorry about that.” I cringe.

“No, what I’m trying to say is: it wasn’t even that bad? When it’s you…it’s like I don’t mind.” He looks back up, his brown eyes catching mine. He has a gorgeous face with smooth skin, and perfectly-styled brown hair. “What is it about…you?”

My heart is beating out of my chest and I lick my lips on instinct. Before I can respond, Sly says, “I bet it’s ‘cause you’re tight with my brother. That makes me like a brother to you. Transitive property, remember?”

He smiles at me and I melt at the sight. I feel hope and disappointment clash in my chest—Sly has friend-zoned me, but this is what I wanted, right?

“Maybe…to help for the play, we can practice…physical contact? Just you and me?” His huge brown eyes are filled with need, but I’m frozen with conflict. Is he asking me what I think he’s asking?

When I don’t respond after a few seconds, he says “I’m sorry. That was inappropriate.”

“No!” I blurt. His eyebrows raise and I tear my eyes off him and look around. Our reflections are infinitely bouncing off the mirrored walls. “It…could be arranged.”

Looking back at Sly, he’s got that million-dollar smile on. He raises his hand for a handshake. “So…you don’t mind helping me get over my fear of being touched? As friends, in private?”

I gulp. Being in a secluded room and putting my hands—and who knows what else—on Sly’s body? This is a disaster waiting to happen. I’ve read enough romance novels and screenplays to know that this can only lead to catching even more feelings and heartbreak. Bad idea, Omar, pull back, now.

I hear my own voice before I register I’m saying it. “When do you wanna start?”

Check out Book 1: The Lines We Draw

Ravi

I’m perfectly fine in my comfort zone. As co-captain of my university soccer team, I know my place. I play hard on the field and my teammates look up to me. Would they look up to me if they knew I liked guys? Probably not, so I’m okay staying a closeted virgin.

That is, until I’m forced to take an arts class, and I’m seated next to the sexiest guy I’ve ever seen. He helps me pass art class, makes me laugh, and has me wanting things I never thought were possible. As the semester goes on, we get closer, and trying to keep my hands off him and stay away from him becomes nearly impossible.

What will happen to my position on the team if I ask him out? I don’t think I’m willing to find out. Now I just gotta stop dreaming about kissing him and holding him… Damn.

Steven

As a fine arts major, I have to focus on creating good work and impressing my professors. Part of that entails sitting in on this beginners arts class, and I just so happen to be next to a gorgeous athlete this semester.

Relationships are a sour note for me, but flirting with the co-captain of the soccer team could be fun. I know it’s not going to go anywhere- he’s straight. Over time, though, becoming friends with Ravi, teaching him how to visualize his art, and learning about his life makes me question what we’re doing.

I don’t know if I’m ready to let someone else into my heart again, least of all a potential closet case (no matter how sexy he is). Still with the way he makes me smile and how my heart beats when I’m near him, I think we’re both in too deep now.

The Lines We Draw is a low-angst, friends-to-lovers story involving art classes, soccer games, nude models, drunken parties, and discovering what sex and love can really feel like, HEA guaranteed. It is the first of a series and can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt:

A taller goblin passed by Shi’chen and gave a small smirk that curled his thin lip up with disdain. “Good day, Captain Er-Ha’sen.”

“Good day,” Shi’chen said, barely giving him a glance out of the corner of his eye.

The older man came to a stop on his other side, silently watching the sparring for a moment. “And how is your brother today?” he asked, his voice light and full of innocence.

Shi’chen gritted his teeth, his fingers clenching around the shaft of his spear. “Did you need something, Captain Hin-Ve’ssa?”

“Just making conversation,” the older Captain said.

Shi’chen pulled his helmet and sand silk veil off so he could glare into the man’s hawk-yellow eyes with his own ember-orange ones. “Do not play me for a fool, Hi’jan.”

“Of course not, Your Highness,” Hi’jan said with a small, mock bow. “I know I could never play you.” He was silent for a long moment before he leaned in a bit closer so only the shorter Captain could hear him. “Of course, your brother is much easier.” Shi’chen’s eyes flashed, and Hi’jan laughed softly. “Ah, come now, Your Highness, surely you don’t think the whole palace doesn’t know that your brother will spread his legs for any pretty face. Even yours.”

Shi’chen hissed through his teeth and pushed his shield out of the way with his foot before leveling his spear toward Hi’jan. “You will watch your mouth, Captain.” The title came out as a growl.

Apparently Hi’jan had been expecting this reaction, because he immediately dropped into a fighting stance, pulling his short sword from his belt. “I’d like to see you make me, Captain.” He shifted, and Shi’chen only had a moment to realize that Hi’jan was moving so the sunlight hit him in the eyes before charging at him to try to close the distance. He dodged back, using his spear to keep Hi’jan at bay. The taller man moved quickly, avoiding the tip of the spear as his own blade whistled closer and closer to the smaller goblin with little regard for the places his armor protected. Shi’chen used his spear to block a strike from the short sword, thrusting it at Hi’jan, being careful not to do more than just drive him back with it. Hi’jan seemed to be showing no such caution, circling Shi’chen and darting in with his blade before moving back again when Shi’chen knocked it aside.

Shi’chen registered in the back of his mind that the sounds of others fighting had faded away except for the clash of his own weapon with Hi’jan’s, and the guards had all turned to watch them. Jeers and shouts of encouragement rang out from the assembly as they watched the two Captains dodge and thrust. Damn it all to the gods, why had he let Hi’jan taunt him into attacking him in front of their companies? But it was too late to stop it now.

In Oz, Hatter reluctantly agrees to accompany Henry on a tour of the land. They soon find out Oz is in serious trouble, with the balance of Good and Evil upset after Dorothy killed the last wicked witch. IG Sized Ozmosis Teaser 4

Excerpt:

Morning dawned in Wonderland much the same as it did everywhere else—during an obscenely early hour of the day and heralded by the rising of a giant ball of flaming gas in the east.

Hatter wasn’t overly fond of mornings. He didn’t actively hate them, per se, not like he hated anchovy-and-pickled dodo-egg omelets, for example, but he didn’t like them nearly as much as he did cherry tartlets. He positively loved a good cherry tartlet. Just the thought of one, hot and bubbly, the crust golden brown, fresh from the oven, made his stomach growl with hunger. He wondered briefly if the baker might have any today, but then remembered it was Tuesday, the day the baker stubbornly and incomprehensibly insisted on making pumpkin pies instead of tartlets, cherry, or otherwise. Feeling disheartened and not just a wee bit cranky, Hatter was tempted to pull the covers up to his chin and drift off to sleep again, except he couldn’t because it was morning, and that inconsiderate, irritatingly bright, giant ball of flaming gas was shining directly through his window.

Which was exactly the trouble with mornings, Hatter mused. They came far too early in the day. If they arrived at a decent hour, perhaps afternoon, or better still, after four o’clock tea time, he might like mornings much better, but since they insisted on inevitably arriving while decent folk were still sleeping, stealing into the world like a thief, and rudely waking people from their perfectly fine cherry-tartlet dreams, he found it practically impossible to like them at all. Not for the first time, he thought they oughtn’t to be allowed.

Henry, on the other hand, and rather foolishly in Hatter’s opinion, didn’t share Hatter’s views on the subject of mornings. Henry liked mornings, a fact that Hatter, should he live to be eleventy-thousand years old, would never understand. It was a character flaw on Henry’s part, Hatter reasoned. Perhaps a brain disorder of some kind.

Without fail, every morning, with as much precision as one of Rabbit’s clocks, Henry bounced out of bed, altogether far too bright and chipper than was decent.

“Good morning, Hatter!” Henry poked his head into Hatter’s room and grinned a horrifically sunny smile. “Rise and shine!”

There was an expression Hatter found thoroughly unlikeable. It was impolite enough to order someone to rise, but to command them to shine as well as simply discourteous, and quite presumptive, in his opinion. He simply refused to do it. He would drag himself from his warm comfortable bed, wash behind his ears, brush his teeth, dress, and make his way to the breakfast table, but he flatly refused to shine while doing so. Not so much as a glimmer of a glow, not even a twinkle, not even for Henry, of whom Hatter was even more fond than cherry tartlets.

Mad About The Hatter Cover

This isn’t his sister’s Wonderland….

Henry never believed his older sister, Alice’s, fantastic tales about the world down the rabbit hole. When he’s whisked away to the bizarre land, his best chance for escape is to ally himself with the person called the Mad Hatter. Hatter—an odd but strangely attractive fellow—just wants to avoid execution. If that means delivering “Boy Alice” to the Queen of Hearts at her Red Castle, Hatter will do what he has to do to stay alive. It doesn’t matter if Henry and Hatter find each other intolerable. They’re stuck with each other.

Along their journey, Henry and Hatter must confront what they’ve always accepted as truth. As dislike grows into tolerance and something like friendship, the young men see the chance for a closer relationship. But Wonderland is a dangerous place, and they first have to get away with their lives.

Pier Pressure Teaser 4

Excerpt:

I crouch and stare at it. “Hello.”

It wriggles its tail and swims away. A fish here means someone’s been coming regularly, to change the water and feed it. “Who’s looking after you, hmm?” My cousin Troy lives nearby, he’d be the type to buy a goldfish for his kid without asking his wife first. I can imagine him schlepping it here and regretting his stupidity every time he came by to keep it alive.

It’s stupid, but I’m ridiculously glad I’m not completely alone. Karl and I might not have had sex in six months, but he’d always shared my bed. I was used to someone being in the same room, in the same space, closest to the door. There was something comforting in it. Like, if we got murdered, they’d have to go through him first.

Wind howls around the bach, rattling the windows and whistling down the chimney. There’s the creak of a door on its hinges, and bloody hell. The bach never seemed this freaky in summer . . .

I raid my suitcase and yank on the kiddiest pyjamas I own, my fluffy ducky ones. Maybe if I look innocent enough, a murderer might think twice before offing me, giving me crucial time to—yep, that hearth shovel was coming to bed with me. And . . . and the fish. I couldn’t leave it all alone out here. The killer might . . .

Carefully, I lift the bowl, tuck it to my chest and take refuge in my room.”

________

I wake up to a shadow looming over me.

I scream and throw blankets into the darkened face. The shovel! Where is it? I plunge an arm down the side of my bed, between the mattress and the wall, and grope for the weapon. Nothing. And meanwhile I’m left in a frighteningly exposed, arse-up position. I forget the shovel and throw myself onto my back, hands balled at the ready.

Before me the figure is muttering something that gets lost under a thick layer of feather-down. A large hand with a vein running down the middle reaches around the duvet and with a whoosh, my cover is yanked off.

Instead of hauling arse out the window with Fishy, I’m asking the intruder to please at once remove himself from my bedchamber. Apparently, I turn into Darcy in panic—“Damon?”

Laughter. As heavy as the ocean, as warm as the dawn spilling into my room. “Well hello, Leon.”

Moving back to my hometown was step one. Step two was finally finding my person only he’s definitely not supposed to be my new co-worker.

Excerpt:

I inhaled a deep, cleansing breath, then released it to calm my nerves. This would be the first step toward the fresh start I was hoping for.

I closed my eyes to say a quick prayer to whoever might be listening that this went well because boy, did I need a new start. Please don’t let me screw it up. This was my chance at a new life where I could be proud of what I was doing and the lives I was saving. Hopefully, this would be exactly what I’d been looking for.

I entered the building, hopeful, and did my best to ignore the fact that a whole swarm of butterflies had taken up residence in my belly. Today would be perfect if I could skip to after the interview and stop to receive the call that the job was mine.

Don’t blow this, Brett! But man, I hadn’t been to an interview in a very long time. I wasn’t even sure I was any good at it.

This interview wasn’t something I could fuck up. After ten years of being away from my family and friends, I’d decided it was finally time to come home. My parents were thrilled to finally have me back, and my best friend was ecstatic.

And boy, did I need the change.

I wasn’t sure when I realized that New York had lost its luster for me. It’d felt like something that I couldn’t quite put my finger on was just missing from my life. Still, on the other hand, maybe I felt sentimental about things instead of actually missing a needed connection. Either way, this job and my hometown felt like a good place to start.

Hopefully, being back and close to the people that loved me would fill whatever this void was. I ignored the nagging voice in my head that said it wouldn’t.

I drew in a deep breath and placed a smile on my face as I approached the desk. The middle-aged brunette looked up and smiled. “Good morning, sir. Do you have an appointment today?” she asked.

“I shook my head and replied, “No, ma’am. I’m here for an interview with Hayden Matthews.”

“Oh, yes,” she said. “And your name?”

“Brett Rockwell.” I slowly released another calming breath. Damn these nerves. I needed to shove them aside so I didn’t mess up this interview. I wanted to feel like I was back home, and this was the first step to making that happen.

Hot Dam Homes, Book 2

Dylan

“Quirky.” Ugh, I hate that word. The PC term these days is ‘neuro-divergent’, but I prefer to be called autistic. It’s often a huge advantage to have a brain that works differently, but I sometimes wish it was easier to connect with other people. The things that make me different can make people want to keep their distance, and for a long time I’ve built walls around myself so no one wants to even try breaking through. Helping the sexy ER doctor renovate his house, I discover someone who wants to get closer instead of running away. I think Reed likes me because I’m a little different, not in spite of it. But the gorgeous doctor has a lot of baggage, and I worry that if he sees the parts of me I work so hard to keep under control, he’s going to turn tail and run.

Reed

I’ve overcome a lot to get to where I am as a doctor, including parents who loved their bigoted, homophobic church more than their child and an opioid addiction following years of self-loathing. I love my team in the ER, but in my personal life I prefer to fly solo. I’m comfortable behind the carefully built walls that no one, not even my best friend, gets through.

The old fixer-upper in a great neighborhood was supposed to be a side project, but I discovered pretty quickly that home renovations are not as easy as they look on TV. But when one of the sexiest men I’ve ever seen, who happens to be a contractor, shows up in my ER, he feels like the solution to all my problems. What I never expected was that while he was re-building my house, Dylan Campbell would be the first person who makes me want to take my walls down.

When The Walls Come Down is a steamy hurt/comfort MM Romance. It features an autistic home renovation expert, and a doctor scarred by a traumatic childhood. Two people who’ve always been outsiders figuring out how to let each other in.

Excerpt:

This is an emergency though. I’m no good with social cues, but Grace sounded so jittery that even I can tell she’s freaking out.

I make it to Grace and her husband’s cute little house in record time, leaving the truck running while I rush inside. I find her in the living room, her coat half-on, wearing one boot with the other one clutched in her hand as she white-knuckles the back of her couch with the other, panting her way through what I assume is a contraction. I have no idea how I’m supposed to react, and touch isn’t something I’m super comfortable with, but I go to her, reaching out to gently rub her back.

Before she can say a word, she squeezes her eyes closed and whimpers.

“Dyl, we gotta get to the hospital. I don’t wanna have this baby in the damn car!“ She’s clearly panicking, and never in my life have I seen my sister so undone.

“It’s okay,” I say, even though I have no idea if it’s okay or not. “We’ll make it. Can you walk to the truck?”

She nods weakly, pointing to an overnight bag. “Can you grab my bag? I’m gonna need you to help me walk.”

I grab her stuff and help her out to the truck. She’s hit by another contraction, and the whimpering sounds she’s making are worse than if she was screaming at the top of her lungs.

“It’s okay, we’ll be okay,” I say, talking as much to myself as to her.

Screeching to a halt in front of the ER a few minutes later, I jump out of the truck and go tearing through the glass doors. Grace seems to be getting quieter, which is not helping my nerves.

“I need some help. There’s someone having a baby outside,” I shout as the automatic doors whoosh shut behind me.

A few nurses glance over, but no one seems to be jumping into action like I would expect.

“Please, can someone help me? There’s a baby literally being born in my truck!”
