They’d been snuggling on the couch for what seemed like hours, kissing and cooing at each other, when the sound of a key in the lock heralded Sandy’s arrival. They moved a fraction apart.
“Hi, guys.” Sandy’s perpetual smile widened. “What have you been up to?”
“Exactly as it looks,” Phineas said crisply, deciding an offense was the best defense.
“Yeah? Cool!”
Cody chuckled. “How was The Roxy?”
“Yum. Well, I’m gonna hit the sack. I’m getting up early for Ultimate Frisbee. Night, Uncle Phinney. Night, Cody.” He gave them one more blinding grin and loped off to his room.
Phineas looked at Cody, who was regarding him with a wry smile. “He knows.”
“He so knows,” Cody agreed. “But I think now that he’s home, I should go.”
“Yes, I guess so. I’m regretting our decision to not visit my bedroom.”
“Yet, remember?” Cody pecked him on the lips. “How about I come over tomorrow and make you dinner?”
“You’re sweet. And yes, I would love for you to make me dinner.” And then make sweet love to me.
At the door Cody turned to Phineas with an earnest expression. “You know I really want to stay. But I think we owe it to Sandy to talk to him about it first.”
“Hmm.” Phineas pretended to consider. “He might be a bit miffed.”
Cody drew his eyebrows together. He was such a cute worrier. “You think?”
“Only because I haven’t let Dare sleep over.”
“Ohhh.” Cody broke into a smile. “No more moral high ground for you, Mr. MacDonald.”
“You’ve corrupted me thoroughly, Mr. Bellstrom. Thank God.”
One more tight hug, one more sweet kiss, and Cody was out the door.
Phineas leaned against it with a dreamy smile, then floated into his bedroom and opened his closet door. “Aha, there you are.”
He pulled out his sparkly red Phanny Hill gown and hugged it to his chest.
