Coach Jim stood in the middle of a court by the net with a clipboard in his hand, all dressed in white, his brown hair thinning, standing in front of ten or so other young men. “You’re late, Chase Rossi, our number one singles, and Nick Jones, our number three singles.” He smirked at them, his brown eyes twinkling.

“Yeah, yeah.” Chase joined the other young men along with Nick and looked them all over. Pretty much everyone was back from last year, except for the seniors that had graduated. He counted five new ones, probably all freshmen by the look of them. He ticked his head to the ones he recognized, including the only other senior besides himself and Nick, Hunter Williams, a tall young man with brown wavy hair, cut to frame his face and his brown eyes.

Coach Jim tapped his clipboard with his index finger, his gaze following something beyond the courts.

Chase peered out. What was Coach looking at?

A young man, shorter than Chase with stark white hair flopping over the side of his head and black brows hovering over stunning blue eyes, came running toward them, a tan shirt pulling tight across his strong shoulders and skinny jeans hugging his narrow hips. He stopped next to Chase and smiled at him, his thick silver hooped earrings glinting in the sun.

Chase widened his eyes. His breath caught. Holy shit, it’s River. When did he bleach his hair? As his heart skipped, he took a hard swallow. “What the fuck are you doing here?”

“Nice to see you, too, Rossi.” River smirked, his upper lip the tiniest bit larger than the lower. He scanned the other young men.

Coach Jim smiled and shifted his stance. “I see you two know each other.”

“Yeah, I beat the shit out of him a few months ago at a tournament.” River snickered, then set his hand on Chase’s shoulder.

Chase flung his hand off, snarling. “Get off me.” Of course, the asshole had to tell everyone about the most embarrassing match of his life.

River’s smile waned and he took a step back.

Hunter came to River’s side, giving him a quick grin. “Hey, man. Glad you decided to come.”

“Thanks.” River lifted his chin to Chase. “At least someone is happy that there is now a great player on this team.”

Chase scowled. “Two words. Fuck. Off.”

“Now, boys…” Coach Jim took deliberate steps toward them, chuckling. “You see, this is very interesting. You want to know why?” He grinned at them both.

Chase pursed his lips. This was where Coach was going to do something that unnerved him. He knew it. “Uh, why?”

“You two are going to play doubles together this year.”

“What? You can’t be serious.” Chase flicked his gaze to River, his chest tightening. Fuck no.

River hung his head, shaking it, then laughed. “Oh, this’ll be good.”

The stomping upstairs was giving me one hell of a headache. “Any idea what that’s about?” I asked Naomi. She was a wonderful woman of sixty-two who had been with me since Jess and I split four years earlier. She came in once a week to clean our home and do laundry. With Grayson off to college, I was sure it was a chore when he came home with a bag full of his dirty stuff from school, but Naomi never complained about any of it.

“Most likely girl trouble, Mr. March. I had the same thing with my Davey before he finally settled down. They don’t call it the Terrible Teens for no reason,” Naomi stated. I’d never heard it called that, but she was definitely spot on. I wrote her a check for the week and escorted her to the door, thanking her for all her hard work. I then returned to the kitchen to attend to dinner for the three of us. The stomping from upstairs, however, was even worse.

“Grayson!” I yelled after my oldest son. He’d rushed upstairs to take a call as Naomi was finishing up, and I had no idea who he was talking to or what had apparently pissed him off. His tantrum needed to stop.

I’d had the worst fucking day in recent memory, and I just wanted to sit down with some of my brother’s gin and some tonic. I wanted to turn on some good music and try to figure out what the hell had caused Leo Anderson to get so angry at me, but I had two growing boys who ate me out of house and home on the weekends, and I was already late getting dinner started.

Last week when Leo had dropped by my office in Brownsville, I’d just hung up the phone with my ex-wife, and I was in a shitty mood. When I saw Leo standing by my assistant Nichele’s desk, my heart beat a little faster, but then I remembered where I was and who was there with me—my son, Grayson, home for the weekend.

His roommate had dropped him off at the office after lunch, and he was in the conference room across from Nichele’s desk doing homework—or so he claimed. The last thing I needed was for my son to see a hot young guy dropping by to talk to me… and me smiling about it like the cat that got the cream.

Grayson had interned at my office all summer before he’d started college at Texas A&M on a basketball scholarship, and I didn’t want word getting back to my ex-wife, Jessica, that I was interested in a guy—especially someone as young as Leo.

I’d panicked that day, and I’d hurt Leo’s feelings. I’d gone to On the Rocks on South Padre Island a few days later to talk to him, but he’d barely spoken to me before he’d stormed out of the restaurant, leaving me to discuss the expansion with Tanner, one of his partners.

Tanner Bledsoe was a truly nice guy, but I’d been looking forward to working with Leo and getting to know him better. Unfortunately, I’d totally fucked it up to the point I doubted he’d ever speak to me again.

Silas Northstar is an outcast. A wolf shifter without a pack. A hated and feared necromancer, infamous for killing an entire pack. He aspires to become the true supervillain people whisper he is.

Then the Westlake pack captures Silas. That night he goes into heat. Someone has to deal with it.

Dean gets the honor, and the fireworks begin.

The morning light shows Silas has vanished. Everyones says no one can keep Silas Northstar for long.

Excerpt from Evil Omega:

Silas wove effortlessly through the tables towards Dean and Dean felt his heart rate increase. It was like being a teenager at school and having your crush walk up to you. Except far more nerve-wracking.

“This is stupid,” said Silas grumpily as he sat down across from Dean.

Dean grinned. “There is nothing stupid about coffee. What can I get you?”

Silas made a dismissive gesture and pulled out his phone. Tapped at it for a few moments before putting it away. He made no move to go to the counter.

Dean stared at him. Silas sighed. “I ordered on the app. Jeez, how old are you?”

Dean took a sip of his coffee, saying nothing. Suddenly worried Silas would either think he was too old or not old enough. Luckily, it seemed to be more of a rhetorical question.

Silas fidgeted with the cord on his hoodie. Dean smiled. Silas was nervous. Silas had almost not come. That was why he was late. You don’t get nervous about coffee with someone you don’t have feelings for. Dean suddenly wanted to do a little happy dance.

The barista appeared, sliding a monstrosity in front of the necromancer. It had a mountain of cream and tiny pastel-colored marshmallows layered on the top.

Silas took off his sunglasses and glared at Dean, challenging him to say anything. Dean just smiled instead. He really wasn’t brave enough.

“So, how has your day been?” Dean asked.

Silas glared at him again. “I’ve been polishing the jars I keep the souls of my enemies in.”

Dean blinked. He wasn’t quite sure whether or not to believe it. It could have been a joke or it could be true. Dean didn’t know enough about necromancy to tell. But he got the message. They weren’t normal people, they couldn’t talk about normal things.

“Alright, what do you want to talk about?” Dean conceded.

Silas just shrugged, then spooned a large dollop of cream into his mouth. Closing his lips around the spoon and pulling it out in a way that was thoroughly distracting. Dean never thought he would be jealous of a spoon.

Dean cleared his throat. “Have you seen that new romcom?”

Silas’s eyes lit up, and they proceeded to discuss their favorite scenes. Then they discovered they were also both fans of Chinese dramas. It led to a long animated discussion about their favorite shows and characters.

Dean’s main phone buzzed. He glared at it in annoyance. He didn’t need to check it to know it was George.

Silas smirked, licking his spoon. “Boss keeping you on a tight leash?”

Dean scowled. It was true, but damn if he was going to admit it. He liked being in a pack. His last period of being alone had frayed his nerves, and he was really starting to settle in here. But sometimes, like now, he longed to be his own boss again.

“No! No! No!” Cassandra yelled at me for what seemed like the fifth time in five minutes. I was on the pommel horse and apparently, I wasn’t performing to her standards. “Your transitions are getting sloppy, Lucas. How many times have I told you that?”

I finished the flair sequence I was on and dismounted. “Too many to count,” I muttered.

But she must’ve heard me. “You’re gonna keep counting, Lucas. Because I’ll keep saying it until you get it right.” I felt my eyes roll before I could stop them and she barked, “Again!”

She worked me on the horse until my arms were jelly and she could tell. I was really getting sloppy when she finally told me to take a break. I knew not to complain about the intensity. That only made it worse with her. After almost four years, I knew what not to do around her. Complaining was one of those things, and talking about anything personal was another. I headed over to the bench, wiped the sweat off my brow and armpits with a towel, and alternated sips between Gatorade and water.

Ty jogged over to me. “Is it safe?” he joked.

I looked behind him. “Probably not for long.” Cassandra was on her phone. “How’s it going, Ty?”

“That’s ‘Coach Ty’ to you, bro.”

“Ah yes. I still don’t understand how you manipulated Woodward into giving you that kind of authority, Assistant Coach Ty.”

“My natural charm?”

“You certainly put the ass in assistant.
